Human Capital at Loisaida, Inc.


LOISAIDA, Inc. continues to attract talented staff. An experienced and committed senior management team comprised of its Executive Director, Assistant Director, and Fiscal Officer, oversee administrative and programmatic functions as well as lead Loisaida's efforts to grow and make an even greater impact in the Lower East Side. Additionally, Loisaida, Inc. has an active volunteer network of over 30 individuals ranging from Americorps volunteer alumni, to professionals living in the community.

LUIS E. NIEVES, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: Mr. Nieves took on the helm at Loisaida, Inc. in November 2007 after having served on its board for 17 years. Mr. Nieves' most recently served as the Executive Director of Vision Urbana, Inc., another community based organization in the Lower East Side. He has had extensive experience as a community builder and leader in organizational development, community economic development, housing and youth development. Mr. Nieves served as a member of Community Board #3 for eight years, and served as its Chairperson for two years. During his tenure a number of significant projects were completed, including a memorandum of understanding between CB#3 and the City of New York to develop over 1,000 units of low incoming housing. His prior work experience includes: ten years as Executive Director of the Lower East Side Coalition Housing Development Corporation, and Executive Director of the Lower East Side Mutual Housing Association. Mr. Nieves holds a Master of Science Degree in City and Regional Planning from Pratt Institute, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from John Jay College. Mr. Nieves was raised and still lives in the Lower East Side.

RAQUEL SANTANA, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: Santana holds an Associates Degree in Business Management from Touro College. She has worked for LOISAIDA in many capacities over the past thirteen (15) years. She is a longtime community resident and brings a strong commitment to every aspect of her work. Ms. Santana is responsible for the organization's Adolescent and Community Programs, serving more than 2500 children and families a year. Her oversight ensures contract compliance, including reports submission, statistical documentation, and meeting all contract deliverables for city, state and private contracts. Ms. Santana plays a key role in the success of the Loisaida Festival/Carnaval, responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day operation for local participation, vendor inquiries, application process, and related reports and documentations.

ILIANE RAMOS, FISCAL OFFICER: Iliane Ramos holds a Master's level Certificate in Systems Audit from NYU. She also holds a BA in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from the University of Puerto Rico. She has worked with the organization for 12 years and is responsible for all accounting procedures, including preparing fiscal reports, as required by New York City and New York State, managing accounts payable, and preparing financial statements for external audits.
